Mediation

Most family law matters are resolved by agreement.   Oftentimes, the parties and their lawyers are able to negotiate a settlement without outside assistance.  In other cases, the Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) process is utilized to assist the parties in reaching a settlement.  ADR enables parties to resolve their domestic matter outside of the courtroom often saving the parties both time and money.  In Georgia, most courts require the parties and their attorneys to attend an informal and confidential mediation session with an independent, neutral third party to see whether settlement is possible without a trial.  While agreements reached at mediation are generally binding, the mediator does not have the authority to make binding decisions or testify if the matter does not settle and proceeds to trial.  The attorneys at The Schachter Law Firm, LLC have extensive experience representing family law clients at mediation.
